Solid Hardwood

Solid Hardwood floor planks are made from a single piece of wood and are generally 1/2", 5/8", or 3/4" thick. Certain species of wood, such as hickory and oak, will create a harder floor that is less susceptible to dings and scratches. Solid hardwood floors can be sanded and refinished several times to restore its beauty, making solid hardwood floors a fantastic investment and a true "lifetime" floor. Designed to last for 30-100 years and beyond, it is not uncommon for older estates and homes to have beautiful floors that are hundreds of years old and able to be refinished to their former glory!

Solid hardwood comes in both raw wood (that needs to be sanded, stained, and sealed AFTER installation) and pre-finished which is ready to install at the time of purchase and will require no additional sanding, staining, or sealing.

The biggest investment into materials and installation will always be solid hardwood, but it will also create the largest return on your investment if you ever decide to put your home or business on the market. Installing solid hardwood flooring throughout will increase your property's value by an estimated 3-5%, and is a desirable choice for many homeowners. When choosing between engineered or solid hardwood, laminate,  LVP, or tile, keep in mind that though wood has the highest ROI, any solid surface flooring is more desirable than carpet for prospective property buyers.

All wood flooring installers will recommend making sure your wood flooring is at your home 7-10 days before installation so your flooring can acclimate to the humidity and temperature fluctuations of your home or business. Solid hardwood will swell in moist conditions, and contract as the area dries. The change in shape can alter the appearance of the floor. Warping, bowing, and cracking are not uncommon for floors that have not been properly cared for.
